Ooch! Looks like peck-man needs a toenail clipping. I don’t envy that task.
Oh, man, tell me about it. It was our #1 priority back in December, but then the infected hands thing happened. Then Holy Supper happened. Then I picked up two bugs, and one semi-serious upper respiratory infection. And then there was the belated honeymoon, Bride’s Day and now the Superbowl…
We’re concerned about hauling it to the vet; TC’s never, ever been caged, and I’m worried it’ll get hella stressed out being taken out of the house to a strange place (not to mention that a professional could potentially cause us problems since Peck-Man’s a wild bird). We’ve also considered calling over a bird person to cut its nails, at the home, with me at the helm so we can do the evil deed ourselves from that point on. (<- Neither of us have any experience with birds, so we’re more than hesitant to clip nails by ourselves the first time.)
Because TC was born and raised in the wild, it doesn’t like people coming at it hands first. It plays with me, sits on my shoulder, allows me to occasionally stroke its chest and pat its head, but, for the most part, it doesn’t dig getting grabbed or pet or cuddled (unless it requires reassurance, or panic-flips itself over; because it can’t fly it’s scared of EVERYTHING). A friend confirmed my gut feeling that I’ll need to towel the fucker, but I really, really feel like I need someone with experience to help me through the first cutting - especially since I’ll be invading its personal crow space (heh).

If he’s got a favorite perch, try wrapping it in sandpaper - it’ll help file them down. With my Iguana (bird-cat-hybrid, I still say) we had to use a powered rotary tool. It was fast, and cauterized any bleeding it caused immediately.
