More synthetic hormone news today: this time it’s about how taking a drug to block estrogen causes severe loss of bone density. This is a drug that’s given to women with breast cancer to discourage the regrowth of tumors after the lumps have been removed. I know someone who takes it so this is a bummer, but it’s better than not surviving. Well again, too much estrogen can kill you and too little also is a problem. I think women should get more respect for the physical sacrifices we all make so that those who desire children can conceive - we all take the hit, even those of us who never have kids, and that’s why we’re all in the same sisterhood. By “sacrifices” I mean the physical pain and inconvenience of these fluctuating hormones and the limitations they impose, on some more than others, and most of all on those who bear kids. Oh yes, they fuck with us. But it’s a meaningful sacrifice, because if no one put up with it there’d be no new people. So don’t act like we’re inferior because of these things: realize that it’s a burden we take on so there can be a human species. Soldiers may take bullets and shrapnel; potential moms take the rollercoaster of the fertility cycle. FOR YOU. Our power is concentrated internally, but just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Anyone who thinks it’s “passive” hasn’t given birth or cared for an infant: oh, there’s Will involved one way or the other once a pregnancy occurs.
