Snake Goddess Tile, via Ebay
This originates from Crete. The Minoan Religion used to worship her. The label on the back States - No 43 Snake Goddess, 1450 BC Iraklion Crete. The museum is reviewed on Google - The plaque has a hanger and looks to be made from a ceramic tile, Possible interior design piece.
My new - er, old - Demeter/Ceres ring overshadowed this recent purchase.
When I was a young thing on the verge of menstruating for the first time I experienced a waking dream that involved a disembodied voice whispering the name “Ariadne” into my ear. Despite being inexperienced in the art of passion I recognized the sexually charged lover’s lament, and I knew I was being called my Name because He was directly addressing me.
For obvious reasons I never forgot the encounter, and I sort’ve understood (even way back then) that if I went off to do my own fucking thing that Ariadne’s snake goddess would still have some importance in my beliefs and practices. And finally - at the age of thirty-fucking-one with a tiny spray of infuriating grey - I have my first depiction of Her. And it was made in motherfucking Crete.
